A compensation event under an NEC4 contract was agreed in principle by both parties — and then stalled for four months over how the change should actually be valued.
NEC4's compensation event mechanism is well regarded for dealing with change early, but agreeing that an event has occurred is only half the job. Valuing it — actual cost plus fee, assessed against the accepted programme — is where technical disagreement usually lives, especially when the change affects sequencing as much as scope.
Early agreement on an event is progress. It isn't the same as early agreement on price.
