Adjudication, arbitration, litigation, mediation — four different routes to resolving the same dispute, and the right one depends on what you actually need.

Adjudication is fast and binding on an interim basis — good for cash flow disputes, not designed for complex final answers. Arbitration is private, and the outcome is final and binding, but it can take as long as litigation. Litigation is public, has full appeal rights, and is often the only route for third parties not bound by an arbitration clause. Mediation is non-binding, but it's frequently the fastest way to a commercial outcome if both sides are actually willing to move.

Choosing a forum before choosing a strategy tends to go the wrong way round.
